Mojtaba Shabani (born 1981, Tehran) is a visual artist who began his artistic practice in 1998. His works have been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions. Central to his practice are the concepts of dreams, timelessness, and the boundary between reality and imagination.
By combining traditional techniques such as Persian miniature painting and printmaking with contemporary approaches, Shabani constructs an intimate and highly detailed inner world in which the human figure serves as a symbol of identity and lived experience. His particular interest in etching stems from its close affinity with the delicacy of line found in Iranian miniature painting.
Working across a wide range of media—from drawing to sculpture and video—his practice reflects an ongoing contemplation of human identity, dreams, and our relationship with the Other.
